Game Recap 9/2/12: On to the next one – Mariners 2, Angels 1

The Angels' five game win streak was snapped this afternoon in a pitcher's duel with the Seattle Mariners. While fans and players alike were hoping to keep the streak alive with Oakland next on the agenda, Hisashi Iwakuma shut the Angels down.

Mariners 2, Angels 1

Game Notes:

– Jered Weaver didn't have his best outing today. From the get go, it was pretty evident that the ace didn't have his normal lights out material. He was able to hold the Mariner's offense up until the 4th and 5th innings when he gave up solo home runs to Jesus Montero and Carlos Peguero. Weaver was also nailed in the shoulder on a comebacker. So, I mean, that's what kind of a day it was.

– The Angels' offense was as quiet as as ever this afternoon. Not only were they shut out by Iwakuma at the plate (7 K), but they had some trouble executing with RISP. The Angels offense left a total 14 runners on base. Not a pleasant number whatsoever.

– The good news is, Howie Kendrick is still hot at the plate. He had the only RBI for the Angels this afternoon.

– Angels' rookie Nick Maronde made his major league debut and earned his first major league strike out on just three pitches. He was taken out immediately after, but it was awesome while it lasted.

Game Recap 9/2/12: On to the next one - Mariners 2, Angels 1

I don't know. Everyone in there.

The Angels have quite the series coming up. Trailing the A's in the AL Wild Card has been an issue since the Halos experienced their two week collapse. After today's rough loss, it's important to remember that the Angels did, in fact, win this series against Seattle.

The loss is in the past now and it's on to the next one.
