Halo Headlines: Angels not interested in Otani, 66ers offer play-by-play job to Costas, Cowart talks AFL

The October 25th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Angels not interested in Otani, 66ers offer play-by-play job to Costas, Cowart talks AFL and much more…

The Story: The Angels are not believed to be interested in Japanese phenom Shoei Otani.

The Monkey Says: This is frustrating because the Halos have more or less punted on international signings ever since their skimming scandal back in 2009.  They are slowly rebuilding that part of their organization, but it seems like they could've used their financial resources to go over the spending cap and not really worry too much about the penalties the following year since they aren't really maximizing the international market anyway.

The Story: The Inland Empire 66ers, the Angels Advanced-A affiliate, offered their play-by-play job to Bob Costas.

The Monkey Says: This is nothing more than a publicity stunt, because that is what minor league clubs do.

The Story: Kaleb Cowart talks about what he is working on in the Arizona Fall League.

The Monkey Says: Cowart isn't off to a great start in the AFL, but that really means nothing considering the small sample size and that he is experimenting as well.  There's also some stuff in there about Bobby Cassevah, but, c'mon, who really cares?  Just kidding.  Cassevah actually seems like he is sharpening up his control in the AFL, although he is over-qualified for the league, so this should be taken with a mill of salt.  With a good showing this spring, Cassevah could be a dark horse for the final bullpen spot.

The Story: The polarizing AL MVP debate in "political cartoon" form.

The Monkey Says: I'm going to put my faith in fellow man and trust that this cartoon is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, because otherwise… ugh.

The Story: The Orem Owlz have been nominated for a MilBY Award for the Soup Nazi Night promotion.

The Monkey Says: Two links about minor league team publicity stunts?  Good gravy do we need some actual baseball news up in this piece.

The Story: A guide to the World Series rooting interests for the bitter Angels fan.

The Monkey Says: I've come to realize this month just how much I don't like the TIgers, so I am rooting for the Giants by default.
