The Story: Reviewing the key storylines of 2012 for the Angels.
The Monkey Says: The troubling part of this is that a lot of those same storylines, specifically the negative ones, have a pretty good chance of repeating in 2013.
The Story: 2013 should be the first real Battle for Los Angeles between the Angels and Dodgers.
The Monkey Says: This title sounds like a lot of bluster and manufactured narrative, but for once it actually holds water. For the first time that I can remember, the Dodgers and Angels are both entering the season with huge expectations. And thanks to the Angels being so competitive and so willing to spend for the last decade, the Halos are actually on somewhat equal footing in LA instead of just the also-ran down the freeway. Unfortunately, there isn't going to be any real pay-off unless the two teams somehow wind up meeting in the World Series.
The Story: The Angels should sign Kyle Lohse.
The Monkey Says: No, they really shouldn't. He isn't that good, won't be worth the money or the forfeited draft pick or the logjam in the rotation. They say you can never have too much starting pitching, but the Angels didn't sign Blanton and trade for Vargas and Hanson just to move one of them to the bullpen in favor of Lohse. Really, this is just an incredibly poorly thought out idea and cheap grap for page views. In fact, I beg of you to not click through that link.
The Story: Projecting every Angels player for 2013.
The Monkey Says: This is just a link to the final page, but they did do the whole roster. I'm not entirely sure what the methodology is. That's not a criticism, mind you, as I provide my own "finger in the air" projections every year. In fact, those will return in 2013, starting in February, which is right after the MWAH top prospect countdown begins right after the new year. Stay tuned!
The Story: Will the Angels regret letting Dan Haren go?
The Monkey Says: I think it boils down to a question of opportunity cost here. Would signing Haren have just cost them Blanton? Or Blanton and Burnett? Or Blanton and Madson? Or might it have scared off Moreno from bringing Josh Hamilton on board. How Haren performs almost doesn't even matter.
