Halo Headlines: Weaver would be OK with a gay teammate, no extension talks with Mike Trout yet

The February 1st, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Weaver would be OK with a gay teammate, no extension talks with Mike Trout yet and much more…

The Story: Jered Weaver would be OK with a gay teammate.

The Monkey Says: I wrote this piece, but suffice it to say that I am annoyed that this is even a story. Also, what I left out is that Rob Fick is a miserable piece of donkey shit, although I think everyone knew that already.

The Story: The Angels have not had any extension talks with Mike Trout yet, nor is he thrilled with the move to left field.

The Monkey Says: Oh, and his mom is going to miss Torii Hunter too. It is a little weird that the Angels haven't talked contract with Trout yet since it is the obvious move at this point, but I imagine those talks would happen in the next few weeks since they need to issue Mike his pre-arbitration salary for the season soon. Of course, maybe they are going to wait and see how this season plays out since Trout's value is already sky high as it is.

The Story: Mike Trout is basically the center of the universe in his hometown.

The Monkey Says: It is because of this that I fear Trout will eventually jump ship to the Yankees some day. Right now, he is that town and playing near there could be very compelling some day. Or maybe it becomes too much for him and he makes a point of staying away, which works perfectly for the Angels.

The Story: Japanese reliever Hiroyuki Kobayashi signed a minor league contract with a spring training invite with the Angels.

The Monkey Says: I have no idea who he is or how good he is. That he only landed a minor league deal strongly suggests that he isn't worth getting excited about.

The Story: The Angels All-Decade team for the 2000's.

The Monkey Says: Napoli over Bengie Molina is borderline criminal. The inclusion of Kevin Gregg also makes me question the validity of the list because Gregg was mostly terrible in his time with the Halos and not much better everywhere else.

The Story: Dean Chance ranks as the Angels' 12th best acquisition of all time.

The Monkey Says: If not for his performance then definitely for his trivia answer versatility.

The Story: A retrospective on Albert Pujols' prospect days.

The Monkey Says: I feel like the prospect fervor wasn't nearly as strong then as it was today, which makes me wonder if his prospect profile might not have been a lot higher had he come up in this era where fans don't seem scared to go crazy over a prospect in the low minors.
