Well, so much for the Angels turning things around. Finally owning a three-game winning streak, the Halos ran into a buzzsaw. A buzzsaw with pipe cleaner arms and some pretty wicked stuff.
There really isn't any mystery here. Chris Sale was terrific, the Halos hitters were not. It is something we have seen all too often from a lineup that was supposed to be one of the best in the league. In fact, the only real mystery here is when the Angels are going to get no-hit. It just feels inevitable, even with all their supposed talent. The only reason it might not happen is because of Mike Trout and he, naturally, was the one who got the Angels' lone hit.
Losing was one thing, but losing like this really hurts as it has to kill a great deal of the already minimal momentum they just finished building. Such is the 2013 Angels.
Game Notes
–I know Conger has the one nightmare defensive game, but Iannetta just seems lost in every facet of the game right now. He coughed up two more steals and just looked terrible with the bat. I don't know if they are connected, but he has just one hit since that marathon game in Oakland.
–A pretty decent outing for C.J. Wilson, although he did still find a way to walk four. What he did though was mostly manage to avoid letting those walks cause him to implode. That's… progress?
–Robert Coello is a thing and he just pitched for the Angels. He's pitcher #20. I literally have no idea who he is. I know nothing about him. How is this still happening?
–Getting shutout by Chris Sale is nothing to be ashamed of, he's great. The problem is that he did it on 98 pitches. Even Mickey Hatcher thinks this team is being too aggressive at the dish right now.
Halo A-Hole of the Game
I'm going to go ahead and blame this one on Epperd, because why the hell not.
