Halo Headlines: Pujols asked to go on DL a month ago, Angels bemoan loss of Hunter's leadership

The June 6th, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Pujols asked to go on DL a month ago, Angels bemoan loss of Hunter's leadership and much more…

The Story: Albert Pujols nearly went on the disabled list a month ago.

The Monkey Says: He actually had agreed to do it but changed his mind the next morning. That decision isn't looking too smart right now though since Pujols hasn't really come around yet. Still, it is kind of intriguing to think that even the Angels though his injuries were bad enough to come to him with the DL idea.

The Story: Mark Trumbo suggests that the Angels are suffering from the loss of Torii Hunter's leadership.

The Monkey Says: This is very surprising because this team should not be lacking leadership what with Scisocia, Pujols and Trout on the roster. Trumbo says some of those guys have stepped up but that there is still a void with Torii gone.

The Story: A bad release point is believed to be the culprit behind Alberto Callaspo's recent spate of errors.

The Monkey Says: Having Brendan Harris at first base and unable to dig out a pretty easy one-hopper doesn't help either.

The Story: Robert Coello talks about how he rediscovered his fuckleball pitch while throwing in independent leagues after converting from a catcher.

The Monkey Says: He seems to have Scioscia's confidence now, which is good because whenever Sean Burnett or Ryan Madson finally return from injury, someone is going to have to get demoted and there is no obvious guy to be sent down at this moment.

The Story: The Angels recently made a fan take a bag off his head during a game at the Big A.

The Monkey Says: That bag is still better looking than that horrible Trout fish hat they are giving away at an upcoming game.

The Story: Even Jerry Dipoto is surprised to see the success Patrick Corbin is having in Arizona.

The Monkey Says: That doesn't make me feel any better about how the trade worked out for the Angels.

The Story: Peter Bourjos is aiming to rejoin the Angels on Monday.

The Monkey Says: The team is moving him to Salt Lake for more rehab. Clearly they are trying to be cautious about his hamstring, but he has played well in his first few rehab games, so it is hard to say what else he really has to gain. Even a recovering Bourjos should be an upgrade over J.B. Shuck.

The Story: Jerome Williams will move back to the bullpen.

The Monkey Says: Of course he will. He has pitched well, but he has bullpen experience and a smaller contract than Joe Blanton. This is just such a classic Scioscia decision.

The Story: Dane De La Rosa was optioned to the minors after last night's game.

The Monkey Says: As of this writing, the Angels haven't announced who is taking his place. The only thing we know is that it won't be Peter Bourjos as Scioscia confirmed that it will be someone else, but we won't find out until Friday because apparently the Angels hate spoilers.
