The Angels completed their season sweep of the Tigers with a 3- 1 win that went 10 innings. With Trumbo and Bourjos on the bench, the Halos found just enough offense from Trout, Pujols, and even Brad Hawpe to win the game.
Weaver once again pitched in the mid 80s mph range, but it was enough as he bounced back from his rocky start against the Pirates to go 7 solid innings.
Unfortunately for the Halos, they do not play the Tigers again this season. Why we play so well against these guys is beyond me. I would absolutely love to hear a psychologist’s take on why we struggle so much against the lowly Astros, but then make Detroit (who probably has the most talent in the league) look like the real last place team. Gotta love baseball…
Game Notes
–Downs left the 8th inning leaving two on and only getting one out. Michael Kohn replaced him and finished the inning by striking out Torii and Cabrera. Looks like the 2010 Michael Kohn is back!
–Mike Trout continued his scorching hot June with 4 hits. Pshh what sophomore slump?!
–Brad Hawpe, starting in place of Trumbo, singled in the Angels first run in the 4th. With J.B. Shuck filling in nicely for Bourjos (offensively), and now Hawpe producing, it’s looking like the Halos have one of the most underrated benches in the AL.
–Pujols’ go-ahead double in the 10th seemed to be catchable, but Granderson could not hold on. Nevertheless, it would have still scored a run. Hey, whatever gets us the win.
Halo Hero
Michael Kohn. He came in in the 8th inning with one out and two on. How did he respond? By striking out Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera. Enough said.
