Halo Headlines: Cowgill to be called up, Trout atop AL outfielder All-Star voting

The July 2nd, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Cowgill to be called up, Trout atop AL outfielder All-Star voting and much more…

The Story: The Angels are expected to call up Collin Cowgill today.

The Monkey Says: As was suspected. What we don't know is if Cowgill will get a chance to play much. Shuck has held his own against left-handed pitching this season, but it isn't like "his own" was ever a high standard to begin with.

The Story: Mike Trout is once again leading AL outfielders in the All-Star balloting.

The Monkey Says: There are a few days left in voting, so he has a starting spot locked up but he may not have the most votes at the position in the bag just yet as crazy things have been known to happen with online voting in the final few days.

The Story: The consensus top 190 prospects in baseball, hitters edition.

The Monkey Says: Seeing the age adjustment boost Cowart's numbers has to be a relief to everyone out there wringing their hands over his struggles this season. It doesn't mean he is off the hook, it just underscores that his issues don't necessarily mean he is a bust or anything close to it.

The Story: Jonah Keri rains on the parade that is the Angels' six-game winning streak.

The Monkey Says: As well he should. I want this team to be declared all fixed but even if they are, they probably dug too deep a hole to climb out of. One thing we know though is that having St. Louis and Boston come through town this week is a good way to expose them for frauds if, in fact, that is what they really are amidst this hot streak.

The Story: More on Mike Trout, Miguel Cabrera and WAR.

The Monkey Says: The horse is dead. Stop beating it.
