Halo Headlines: Harris designated for assignment, Scioscia wins his 1200th game

The July 22nd, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Harris designated for assignment, Scioscia wins his 1200th game and much more…

The Story: Brendan Harris was designated for assignment and Tommy Field was promoted to take his place.

The Monkey Says: Harris didn't perform with the bat and was nothing special with the glove, so the Halos opted to promote Field who has a solid track record of production in the minors. With the short bench the Angels carry, it seems they just wanted a guy they could count on a bit more to come through at the plate.

The Story: Mike Scioscia won his 1200th game as a manger on Friday.

The Monkey Says: The fact that he has done all of that with one team is impressive. The question now is what team will he be managing for win #1300?

The Story: Albert Pujols' legs feel 'decent' after the All-Star break.

The Monkey Says: The rest no doubt helped, but he still looks to be in a lot of pain when he runs. He has been hitting well since the break though. It makes one wonder if Scioscia shouldn't make sure that Albert gets one day off each week, especially with the Angels only having four off days the rest of the season.

The Story: Jason Vargas will be examined early this week with hopes of throwing off a mound to follow.

The Monkey Says: He is three weeks into a projected recovery of four-to-six weeks. He hasn't had any setbacks, but it looks like his return will be closer to six weeks than four.

The Story: Mike Trout is atop Fangraphs' trade value rankings for the second straight year.

The Monkey Says: Now, about that contract extension…

The Story: Mike Trout is proving himself all over again.

The Monkey Says: Not that he needed to prove himself. This was more about analysts proving to themselves that it is possible for someone to be this great two years in a row at such a young age. Instead of assuming that Trout had an outlier season, he has instead shown that he is the outlier.

The Story: Tommy Hanson has officially been named the starter for Tuesday's game.

The Monkey Says: This was always the plan, but now he appears to have gotten all the clearances he needed to make it official.

The Story: Robert Coello still has not resumed throwing.

The Monkey Says: I wouldn't count on seeing him again before September if it all this season.
