The October 24th, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Angels worth $1.09 billion, replacing Howie Kendrick and much more…
The Story: The Angels are valued at $1.09 billion.
The Monkey Says: That makes them the 8th most valuable franchise in MLB. Arte Moreno paid $180 million almost eleven years ago. It is safe to say he made a good investment.
The Story: How the Angels can replace Howie Kendrick.
The Monkey Says: This, of course, assumes he will be traded. If they go in-house, it will almost certainly be Grant Green as Taylor Lindsey is not going to be ready in 2014. I wouldn't be too upset if Andrew Romine got a shot since he is such a slick glove. One outside option worth considering that wasn't mentioned is Mark Ellis who would be a nice veteran stopgap for a year. He's old, but he is still a strong defender and his bat isn't too far below league average at the position.
The Story: Jered Weaver's 2013 season in review.
The Monkey Says: "Velocity dip" sounds like it should be a condiment that they serve with soft pretzels at the Big A. Dammit, now I'm hungry.
The Story: The Angels have gotten away from their winning formula.
The Monkey Says: That 2002 World Series team is often misremembered for being all pitching and defense. Yes, they led the AL in ERA and were second in UZR, but they were also fourth in runs scored and had a team batting average that was five points higher than any other team in baseball. That team was just really damned good. So, yeah, they've gotten away from being a team with no real weakness… just like every other team.
