Halo Headlines: Phil Hughes on Angels' radar, Gutierrez designated for assignment

The November 29th, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Phil Hughes on Angels' radar, Gutierrez designated for assignment and much more…

The Story: The Angels are one of several teams with current interest in Phil Hughes.

The Monkey Says: This has been a logical fit for awhile, but it sounds as if the Twins are about to make a big run at him. Considering how much they just overpaid Ricky Nolasco, it seems likely that they could overpay to get Hughes too. That might be for the best as far as the Angels are concerned. Hughes is a change of scenery candidate, but if the change doesn't help, he could be Blanton-level terrible.

The Story: Juan Gutierrez has been designated for assignment.

The Monkey Says: He was going to get non-tendered anyway, so this is just housekeeping in order to clear space on the roster for Joe Smith.

The Story: How much would a trade of Mark Trumbo hurt the Angel offense?

The Monkey Says: I still highly doubt that they would trade Mark Trumbo, but replacing him with a cheap platoon like Mike Morse and Garrett Jones would probably replace a lot of his production at roughly the same price. It would be a bold move for Dipoto to make, but there is no way he considers it unless he gets a top flight pitching talent in return.

The Story: The Angels should consider a reunion with Scott Kazmir.

The Monkey Says: No, they shouldn't. The Angels and Kazmir did not part on good terms. This is a terrible, terrible idea.

The Story: C.J. Wilson appeared on a recent episode of The Mindy Project.

The Monkey Says: And yet I still don't feel compelled to watch said episode.
