The Story: Individual game tickets go on sale for the Angels at 10 a.m. on February 22nd.
The Monkey Says: Let's hope the Angels to hike prices by 140% at the last minute like a certain other Southern California baseball team.
The Story: Chris Capuano has dropped his asking price and could now be the Angels' top target.
The Monkey Says: Capuano allegedly will now accept a one-year deal, which is what the Angels want to sign someone for… if they sign someone. One would think that Capuano would have to sign soon since pitchers and catchers report in a week and a half.
The Story: Alden Gonzalez throws out the idea that J.B. Shuck could start the season in the minors.
The Monkey Says: Now, I know I am the champion of the anti-Shuck movement, but that is only relating to Shuck as a player who gets a lot of playing time. He actually profiles as a useful bench player. His performance last season should all but guarantee him a roster spot for 2014, but I suppose it is possible someone could beat him out. I just don't see anyone in camp who is going to do that.
The Story: The Houston Astros signed former Angels pitcher Jerome Williams.
The Monkey Says: This is a good example of how team fit makes something a good signing. The Angels need a fifth starter, but Williams just isn't good enough for what they want to do. However, he is a great fit for what the Astros want to do. He'll be a great veteran influence on that young team and soak up innings in the process.
The Story: The growth of Taylor Lindsey will determine Howie Kendrick's future with the Angels.
The Monkey Says: Yeah, maybe. There are a lot of factors. If the Angels need to clear luxury tax space for 2015, they could be inclined to move Kendrick. If they need to trade for pitching (again) next offseason, they could look to trade Kendrick. Lindsey showing he is "ready" will only give them more confidence to make those moves. Otherwise, there is no reason for them not to be content with keeping Kendrick until his contract expires.
