The Story: How the Angels can compete in the AL West.
The Monkey Says: Step one has been accomplished with everyone on the A’s and Rangers getting hurt, so clearly the Halos are on their way to greatness!
The Story: Dane De La Rosa is on track to return by April 11th.
The Monkey Says: I would’ve expected him to be back sooner, but the Angels are obviously taking it slowly to make sure he is ready as De La Rosa is arguably one of the two most important members of the bullpen.
The Story: Sean Burnett is close to going on an assignment to extended spring training.
The Monkey Says: That’s great news, but I still don’t see him being back on the active roster until May.
The Story: The Angels released a number of minor leaguers.
The Monkey Says: This is a normal thing that is done this time of year, but Piazza and Cendejas had solid performances last year. Cisco did too, but he is mostly just a name we know because the Angels got him for free from the Phillies a year ago.
The Story: Joe Blanton signed a minor league contract with the Oakland Athletics.
The Monkey Says: It looks like the AL West hasn’t seen the last of Blanton just yet. This is one of those moves where it makes me question myself. I think so highly of Billy Beane, so I scratch my head at what he thinks he sees in Blanton, other than a guy who costs virtually nothing and has some kind of track record.
The Story: The Angels moves the distance markers on the outfield walls, but not the walls.
The Monkey Says: Why? We don’t know. The numbers show shorter distances now because of their placement, but the walls are exactly the same. This is just weird.
The Story: Breaking down Mike Trout vs. Felix Hernandez.
The Monkey Says: Well, Trout has owned Felix so far in his career, so it is definitely worth looking into.
The Story: I was included in the Top 200 MLB Twitter accounts to follow this season.
The Monkey Says: The Sporting News clearly has terrible taste. They also listed the site’s Twitter account, which is mostly robo-tweets. The one you really want is @Garrett_MWAH, but you probably knew that already.
