The Story: The Angels are pursuing Huston Street and Ian Kennedy.
The Monkey Says: Which just means they have shown interest, or in the case of Kennedy, not shown interest. I really don’t get how it works that they are pursuing Kennedy but haven’t spoken to the Padres about him. I know that I’m not a MLB GM, but I’m pretty sure you have to ask the other team for a player before you can trade for him.
The Story: Mike Trout will play left field and bat second in the All-Star Game.
The Monkey Says: This has people upset for some reason. It’s an exhibition game. Someone has to play left. Get over it.
The Story: Mike Trout is once again making an MVP push.
The Monkey Says: Barring an utter catastrophe, he’s going to win AL MVP. Even the anti-WAR community isn’t going to be able to find someone else to make a reasonable case for over Trout.
The Story: A look at the remaining schedules of the contenders.
The Monkey Says: Whatever. So much can change between now and then. Bad teams are going to trade players and get worse. Good teams are going to acquire players and get better. Within each division, the schedules are all pretty much the same.
The Story: Mike Trout would like to be in a Home Run Derby in the future.
The Monkey Says: Basically, he is being peer pressured into it after taking crap from other players. Then again, he got peer pressured out of it by Scioscia in the first place.
The Story: The Angels should extend Jerry Dipoto.
The Monkey Says: They should’ve extended it before the season. I wrote about this months ago. GMs should be judged by the process, not by the end results. If Moreno likes the process he went through to build this roster, he should give him an extension or pick up his contract extension. He shouldn’t wait until after the Angels qualify for the post-season. I can understand if he wants to see what Jerry does at the deadline before making a decision, though it seems like he has done well enough for that not to be a major factor.
