The July 22nd, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including the rebuilt Angels bullpen, more Street trade reactions and much more…

The Story: The completely rebuilt Angels bullpen.
The Monkey Says: It really is staggering how much turnover there has been. A lot of the improvement came from within, but a lot of that wouldn’t have happened had Dipoto and Scioscia not been willing to send guys up and down in an effort to find the guys who would click.

The Story: Peter Gammons breaks down the Huston Street trade.
The Monkey Says: Relievers are supposed to throw strikes? What a novel idea!

The Story: The Angels signed catcher John Buck to a minor league contract.
The Monkey Says: Buck gives them an insurance policy in case someone gets hurt. At worst, he’ll be the third catcher when rosters expand.

The Story: Are pitchers throwing Albert Pujols more cutters on purpose?
The Monkey Says: Well, they are throwing cutters on purpose, obviously, but are they doing so to purposely exploit a weakness of Albert’s.

The Story: Jonah Keri talks about the weaknesses in the Angels roster after their trade.
The Monkey Says: In that the Angels don’t really have a weakness anymore. Some areas aren’t strengths, but not bad enough to call legit weaknesses. The rotation could use an upgrade in the back-end, but it has still been pretty good overall.

The Story: C.J. Wilson threw his first bullpen session since landing on the DL.
The Monkey Says: He’ll still likely miss at least two more starts.
