The August 15th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Moreno opposed Manfred as new commissioner, Eckstein leaves Angels coaching staff and much more…
The Story: Arte Moreno was one of the seven holdout owners that opposed the election of new commissioner Rob Manfred.
The Monkey Says: There was eventually a unanimous vote for Manfred, but that was more a matter of procedure. Moreno aligned himself with noted evil troll Jerry Reinsdorf, so it is likely that they gained some sort of concession in order to get them to cease their opposition. We don’t know what that was, but I’m sure it will come out eventually.
The Story: Rico Brogna will replace Rick Eckstein as the player information coach.
The Monkey Says: Eckstein is leaving to join the University of Kentucky coaching staff. Not really a big deal, just guys moving around to enhance their careers.
The Story: Vinnie Pestano says his recent struggles in Cleveland were related to an elbow injury.
The Monkey Says: If he’s healthy again and back to his old mechanics, this could prove to be a steal for the Angels as Pestano had the look of a high-end reliever before his struggles began.
The Story: Mike Trout is one of four players to have three 25+ homer seasons before their 23rd birthday.
The Monkey Says: There are not a lot of players that even get an opportunity to do that, but it is still pretty damn impressive.
