The October 10th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including the not-so-improved Mike Trout, what’s next for the Angels and much more…

The Story: The new and no-so-improved Mike Trout.
The Monkey Says: The short version of this is that while Trout is hitting the ball harder than ever before, his increased whiff and pop-up rates are cause for concerns. The suggestion is that those trends are going to be hard to reverse, but I tend to think if anyone can do it, it is Trout. One of the biggest things we saw with him this year was teams exploiting his difficulty hitting balls up in the zone. That’s something he can work to overcome, unlike an older slugger whose issues are related to a decline in physical skills.

The Story: What’s next for the Los Angeles Angels?
The Monkey Says: A remarkably sensible take from Bowden. Everyone is going to want the Angels to sign Lester, Scherzer or Shields, but they just don’t have the money. I’m not so sure they even have the money to land a Brandon McCarthy. Going the trade route by dangling someone like Howie Kendrick seems like a strong possibility.

The Story: Brennan Boesch and John Buck both elected free agency.
The Monkey Says: Not a surprise. Buck will try and find a back-up catcher gig elsewhere while Boesch will try and show off his Triple-A numbers in order to get a spring training invite from a team in need of left-handed power.
