The November 5th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Trout, Shoemaker Scioscia finalists for BBWAA awards, Pujols and Calhoun lose out on Gold Gloves and much more…
The Story: BBWAA award finalists with Mike Trout nominated for MVP, Matt Shoemaker for Rookie of the Year and Mike Scioscia for Manager of the Year.
The Monkey Says: Trout will win MVP easily, though it would be funny to see him lose to another Tigers hitter. Shoemaker has no chance at beating out Abreu for ROY. In fact, he was lucky to beat out Tanaka and McHugh for a finalist slot. Scioscia has a shot at MOY, but Showalter is probably a narrow favorite.
The Story: Albert Pujols and Kole Calhoun came up short in their Gold Glove bids.
The Monkey Says: As expected, though Pujols probably had a better shot than Calhoun.
The Story: Tim Bogar has rejoined the Angels organization as a special assistant to the GM.
The Monkey Says: For now. Bogar is still in the running for the managerial opening in Tampa. I’m also not totally convinced that Bogar won’t be reassigned to a coaching position of some sort. If he does stay, the Angels should count themselves lucky that they were able to get someone so highly though of back.
The Story: A scouting report on newly signed prospect Roberto Baldoquin.
The Monkey Says: He was originally reported to be a 3B/OF-type, but he actually has been playing shortstop, but might actually be destined to be a second baseman. Even with this report, we still don’t know all that much.
The Story: Mike Trout was named AL Outstanding Player in the Players’ Choice Awards.
The Monkey Says: But he lost out on Player of the Year to Kershaw. Even when Trout gets respect, he still gets no respect.
The Story: Projected arbitration salaries for 2015.
The Monkey Says: That $5 million is going to make it awfully hard for the Angels (or anyone) to keep Beckham, as expected. Everything else seems pretty reasonable, though Wade LeBlanc is likely to be non-tendered.
The Story: The Angels rank quite low in this list of most tortured fans.
The Monkey Says: It sure doesn’t feel that way to me.
The Story: Round 2 of the results for the Angels Fan Favorites Awards.
The Monkey Says: Trout with the best Twitter account? Are you serious? He LITERALLY ends every tweet with an exclamation point! That’s really annoying!
