The November 11th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Shoemaker finishes 2nd in AL ROY voting, Pestano avoid arbitration and much more…

The Story: Matt Shoemaker finished second in AL Rookie of the Year voting.
The Monkey Says: He received 12 second place votes and four third place votes. No player below him on the ballot even appeared on more than 13 ballots, so he actually was second quite comfortably.

The Story: Vinnie Pestano avoided arbitration by signing a $1.15 million one-year contract with the Angels.
The Monkey Says: Pestano settled early to avoid any possibility that he might get non-tendered, though I doubt he would have unless he asked for a preposterous amount in arbitration. Even if he did, Dipoto didn’t acquire him just to cut him loose at the end of the year over a few hundred thousand dollars.

The Story: History is against him, but Mike Scioscia is worthy of Manager of the Year.
The Monkey Says: That’s nice and all but he is still probably going to lose to Buck Showalter.

The Story: Family, faith and community keep Albert Pujols grounded.
The Monkey Says: Are we sure we want to use the word “grounded” for a guy that left the only franchise he ever knew because they “disrespected” him by offering a measly nine-year, $205 million contract extension?
