The Story: Darin Erstad and Troy Percival are on the ballot for the 2015 Hall of Fame class.
The Monkey Says: Interestingly, Jarrod Washburn did not make the cut to give the 2002 Angels more representation. It doesn’t matter though, it is highly doubtful that Darin or Troy even get a vote, much less enough votes to stay on the ballot next year. All this really does is make me feel old.
The Story: Kole Calhoun, the surprise that everyone should have seen coming.
The Monkey Says: I think Calhoun is one of those cases where stats and perceived skills don’t line up and the stat people try so hard to find how the stats might be wrong just because there is often that lack of confidence that the stats tell all, especially with a prospect. I was certainly guilty as I even wrote a similar warning tale about not trusting Calhoun’s numbers because of his age.
The Story: Breaking down all the 40-man roster additions last week.
The Monkey Says: Yep, it is pretty boring, especially for the Angels. Or at least it seems boring, but that is only because people have yet to discover Jett Bandy’s secret second career as a film noir private detective.
The Story: The Angels gave out 57 full playoff shares worth $29,844 each.
The Monkey Says: They had 54 players actually enter a game for them this season, so I don’t know who the other three shares for. I think it might be that the three guys who spent the whole season on the DL also got playoff shares. If true, that means Brian Moran got $29,000 for blowing out his elbow in training camp. Good work if you can get it.
