The December 3rd, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Beckham and LeBlanc officially non-tendered, Angels banking on pitching depth and much more…
The Story: Gordon Beckham, Yoslan Herrera and Wade LeBlanc were officially non-tendered.
The Monkey Says: As expected. Well, almost. None of the sites out there listed Herrera as being arbitration eligible, but given that info now, it really shouldn’t be a surprise that he got non-tendered. No sense giving him guaranteed big league money when he’d spend the whole season in the minors if everything goes to plan.
The Story: The Angels are banking on pitching depth in 2015.
The Monkey Says: With Skaggs out, Richards on the mend and Wilson… whatever he is, they are going to need it. They have a ton of bullpen depth, but I still don’t think they have enough rotation depth. No team ever really has enough, but having Tropeano, Alvarez and maybe Rasmus in reserve may not prove to be enough if Wilson or Santiago flames out or if Wilson remains a mess. Sure, they can eat innings, but will they be any good? It won’t be easy, but if Dipoto can land another quality starter and bump Santiago into a swingman role, I’d feel a lot better.
The Story: Special Assistant to the General Manager Tim Huff did not get the scouting director position with the Diamondbacks.
The Monkey Says: He will not be leaving the Angels organization… in a huff.
The Story: Roberto Baldoquin is expected to finalize his contract with the Angels by the end of the month.
The Monkey Says: Hurry up and push those papers.
The Story: The Angels signed OF D’Arby Myers to a minor league contract.
The Monkey Says: I know nothing about him, but I love him already because his name is D’Arby. He’ll make a fine upgrade over LeQuiznos Jones.
