The December 9th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Angels claim 1B/OF Marc Krauss, interest in C.J. Wilson on trade market and much more…
The Story: The Angels claimed 1B/OF Marc Krauss off waivers from the Astros.
The Monkey Says: He immediately becomes the frontrunner to platoon with Cron at DH. Krauss really should just be a 1B as he has no athleticism whatsoever and should thus be banned from the outfield. He also hasn’t hit much in two partial seasons with the Astros. He has some pop and drew a ton of walks in the minors, so there is something there. Mainly though, it seems that he is just a guy Dipoto likes as he was originally a second round pick by the D’Backs back when Dipoto was in that front office.
The Story: The Angels are getting some interest in C.J. Wilson on the trade market.
The Monkey Says: However, they’d have to eat money on the contract, which they don’t really want to do given that dumping his contract is the main point of trading him. They want to move him out so they can go after Lester, Scherzer or Shields, presumably. Still, at least they are getting some nibbles. It only takes one sucker. Oh, Dipoto claims he hasn’t been calling teams to shop Wilson, but that sounds like semantics.
The Story: Baseball America’s top 10 Angels prospects.
The Monkey Says: Remember when the Angels had no pitching prospects? Now they only have one position player in their top 10. Granted, Baldoquin is not on the list since he hasn’t technically signed yet, but still. Anyway, if you want more prospect goodness, try the MWAH Top 30 Prospect Countdown! Why? Because top 10s are for lazy people.
The Story: A look at the Angels’ options for middle infield depth.
The Monkey Says: None of those options are exciting, but I’d like to see them shy away from Beckham if only to curtail anymore nonsense with the Freese vs. Beckham debate.
The Story: Don’t shift against these batters.
The Monkey Says: Iannetta appears on the list, but the bigger reason for linking to this is that it is largely predicated around a quote given by C.J. Wilson which is very insightful.
