The January 2nd, 2015 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including inside Angels front office number crunchers, the Angels best lineup and much more…

The Story: A look at the four 20-somethings that are instrumental in the advanced analysis portion of the Angels front office.
The Monkey Says: A little look at how the front office treats analytics and balances it with scouting. Mostly it is just to make you feel old.

The Story: A statistical look at the best Angel lineup permutations.
The Monkey Says: Tell me again how Trout should bat third. Go ahead. I dare you.

The Story: How many five-tool players are in MLB?
The Monkey Says: Trout is listed as one, but I’d argue he is not. The classical definition of “five tools” includes having a strong arm, which Trout certainly does not. It is his only weakness. Well, that and kryptonite.

The Story: Hometown discounts are dead amongst MLB free agents.
The Monkey Says: Thanks again for that, Jered. Feel free to try and put that bug in Garrett Richards’s ear when he starts coming up on extension talk time.

The Story: Featherston is Taylor-Made for the Angels.
The Monkey Says: His ability to play a decent shortstop is why I think he is going to stick on the roster, provided he doesn’t completely flame out in spring training. Green and Rutledge have experience at short, but neither appears to even be competent at that position.
