The January 5th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Angels showing interest in Zobrist and Shields, how long will Hamilton be with the Angels and much more…

The Story: Nick Cafardo claims the Angels have shown interest in both Ben Zobrist and James Shields.
The Monkey Says: Cafardo also has no idea what he is talking about, so don’t go getting too excited. Shields doesn’t seem like the right investment for the Angels unless his price drops dramatically and dealing for Zobrist after trading Kendrick seems pretty backwards too. There doesn’t look to be much fire to this smoke, or even much smoke really. Not unless it is coming from something Cafardo is smoking.

The Story: Will the Angels trade Josh Hamilton?
The Monkey Says: Alden believes the Halos will give Josh another shot in 2015, which makes sense. There is a lot of overreaction to his performance after he hurt himself towards the end of the year. Hamilton isn’t living up to his contract, but he was playing well enough to remain a starter, prior to that injury. Of course, Alden also believes that Josh won’t finish the contract with the Halos, so there isn’t exactly a lot of faith that he’ll continue to produce at even that league average starter level.

The Story: A look at each team’s odds of signing Max Scherzer.
The Monkey Says: Yeah, sorry, it isn’t happening. Scherzer’s contract is going to be way too huge for Moreno to swallow. I think Arte can be convinced to go a little bit over the tax line for a year or two, but giving Scherzer a megadeal would send them flying past the threshold for years to come unless they really work to slash payroll elsewhere.
