The January 9th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including scouting Kubitza and Hyatt, Krauss designated for assignment and much more…

The Story: A look at the prospects involved in the Kubitza-Hyatt/Sanchez trade.
The Monkey Says: I had my own post yesterday, but one thing I wanted to add is that prospect-for-prospect trades are the best and should happen much more often. They can make so much sense for clubs, but GMs are scared of getting burned. Dipoto might well get burned here if Sanchez blossoms five years from now, but he clearly was able to quell those concerns in favor of a focus on winning a World Series in the near future (and getting himself a contract extension so he can even still have a job if/when Sanchez reaches the majors in Atlanta).

The Story: Marc Krauss was designated for assignment to make room for Kubitza on the 40-man roster.
The Monkey Says: He went from a potential DH platoon candidate to off the roster in a matter of weeks. He should clear waivers though, so expect to see him in training camp where he will audition for a bench spot that isn’t actually available.

The Story: Angels Stadium created a tribute for Teemu Selanne’s retirement.
The Monkey Says: I’m a Kings fan, but dammit, I loved me some Teemu.

The Story: The Angels are were targeting a trade for a third baseman of the future.
The Monkey Says: It is almost like Alden Gonzalez had a source that told him what was coming later in the day. I suspect he didn’t expect it to happen quite so quickly.
