The January 19th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Salas and Cowgill avoid arbitration, Freese, Joyce and Richards exchange figures and much more…

The Story: Fernando Salas and Collin Cowgill both avoided arbitration.
The Monkey Says: Salas gets $1.37 million and Cowgill gets $995,000. Both are within $100K of the projection, so the Halos continue to keep their budget in line. However, they still have three cases yet to settle.

The Story: David Freese, Matt Joyce and Garrett Richards all exchanged arbitration figures with the Angels.
The Monkey Says: Richards and Joyce both have a gap of over a million and Freese has a gap over $2 million. None of those will be easily overcome, but negotiations can continue over the next few weeks.

The Story: The Angels see a lot to like in Roberto Baldoquin.
The Monkey Says: The Halos are revving up the Baldoquin hype machine, which is no surprise given how much they paid for him. From the article, it sounds as if the Halos unexpectedly became enamored of Baldoquin, but now consider him a big part of their future. He will open the season with the Inland Empire 66ers with the goal of taking over as the starting shortstop in 2017.

The Story: Pitching and hitting backwards in 2014.
The Monkey Says: Josh Hamilton, unsurprisingly, sees the fewest fastballs in the league, but Matt Joyce isn’t far behind.
