The January 27th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Angels ‘optimistic’ about Richards’ recovery, Mota wins broadcasting award and much more…
The Story: The Angels remain optimistic about Garrett Richards’ recovery.
The Monkey Says: They are still talking as if Opening Day is a possibility, so that’s good news. Still, we won’t really know anything until he starts pitching again and doing real baseball workouts. Right now he’s just running and playing long toss.
The Story: Jose Mota won an award from the Southern California Sports Broadcasters.
The Monkey Says: Congrats, Jose, this is just further proof that if you play good enough until last out until also something good happens for you.
The Story: A look at active players that could some day reach 3,000 hits.
The Monkey Says: This raises an interesting question: with Trout already at 572 hits, could he be the youngest player ever to achieve 3,000 hits? Probably not. He’d need to average over 200 hits per season (which he has never done) to meet Ty Cobb’s mark of doing it at age 34. Trout takes too many walks to accumulate that high of a total that quickly. If he averages 175 hits, he can pas the 3,000 hit milestone during his age 36 season.
