The January 28th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Angels sign Herrmann and Stewart, Baldoquin not coming to training camp and much more…
The Story: The Angels signed pitchers Frank Herrman and Zach Stewart to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training.
The Monkey Says: Both have big league experience but not any real big league success. Herrmann is a hard throwing reliever coming off Tommy John in 2013. Stewart was once a well regarded prospect, but hasn’t panned out. He is normally a starter, but has relief experience as well.
The Story: Roberto Baldoquin will not be given an invitation to spring training after all.
The Monkey Says: They want to make sure he gets as many reps as possible in minor league camp since he hasn’t played much in the last year. It would be nice to get to see Baldoquin some (and he could possibly will get loaned to the MLB club for split squad games), but it is more important that he gets his work in.
The Story: Matt Shoemaker is finally getting to realize his dreams.
The Monkey Says: This is a nice story about Shoe but also a pretty depressing story about life is like for a minor leaguer with a family who is just trying to make ends meet.
The Story: Garrett Richards’ arbitration hearing is set for February 11th.
The Monkey Says: Talks are said to be progressing slowly, but that isn’t abnormal. No need to panic just yet.
The Story: Photos from the ceremony to present Mike Trout with his MVP award.
The Monkey Says: Mike Trout not included as he apparently missed the ceremony due to the flu. I find that hard to believe though because Superman is immune to all earth-bound diseases and viruses.
