Josh Hamilton needs shoulder surgery, out 6 to 8 weeks

-17

In case any of you were holding out hope that Josh Hamilton might be able to bounceback a little this year and salvage what remains of his value… WELP. Instead, we found out earlier this afternoon that Josh Hamilton needs shoulder surgery and will miss six to eight weeks, putting his availability for Opening Day in question.

According to reports, Hamilton claims that his shoulder started acting up last week, so that is why he is only just now having surgery despite this being the same issue that caused his disastrous performance in the 2014 ALDS.

Given his history of fragility and difficulty in getting his swing in shape, it is highly doubtful Hamilton will be ready to start the season, even though eight weeks would have him healthy enough for Opening Day. This is hardly the news that the Halos needed for Hamilton as he tries to get back on track after his first two disastrous campaigns with the Angels. In his stead, expect Matt Joyce and Collin Cowgill to platoon in left field. I’m sure nobody will really complain.
