The February 18th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Angels sign Matt Lindstrom, Trout and Kershaw appear on billboard and much more…

The Story: The Angels signed reliever Matt Lindstrom to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training.
The Monkey Says: He had been a very effective reliever for a long time, but he struggled with injuries and lost velocity in 2014. He might be washed up, but if he is able to bounceback, he’d be a very nice middle inning groundball specialist for the Halos.

The Story: Mike Trout and Clayton Kershaw’s giant heads appear together on a billboard in LA.
The Monkey Says: Look at the two Los Angeles teams coming together to create a billboard. This is truly a momentous step forward in civil rights… or something. I’m sure it has nothing to do with one of the team owners being a guy that made his fortune off of billboard advertising.

The Story: Projecting the Angels Opening Day lineup.
The Monkey Says: This Trout batting third thing won’t seem to go away. I also don’t much care for putting Calhoun and Joyce back-to-back, which sets up poorly for late inning match-ups.

The Story: Fangraphs released their top 200 prospects.
The Monkey Says: Heaney is #50, Newcomb is #54 and Baldoquin is in the 140 to 200 range because that is where McDaniel justifiably gave up on actually stack ranking all of them.

The Story: CBS Sports gave the Angels a B- grade for their offseason.
The Monkey Says: In all these grades, the Angels get dinged for giving up Kendrick but getting credit for getting Heaney. I wonder what the grade would be if the Angels hadn’t made that deal. Would it be worse if they just went into the season with Santiago, Tropeano and Rasmus duking it out for the #5 starter spot? Would it be better if they didn’t have a black hole at second base now? I honestly don’t know.

The Story: Jim Bowden also gave the Angels a B- grade for their offseason.
The Monkey Says: It is the same grade as the CBS grade, but Jim Bowden is an idiot, so this goes to show how arbitrary and meaningless these grades are.
