The Story: Erick Aybar has switched agents.
The Monkey Says: He is now represented by Roc Nation. Aybar has 99 problems, but now his representation ain’t one. That’s pretty much the only Jay Z reference I am capable of making. I don’t know if Aybar switching agents really means anything though as he has two years left before he hits free agency. It is possible that he’s looking to spark up extension talks, but I’d be surprised if the Angels are even willing to listen with so much time left on his deal still.
The Story: Nick Tropeano will get a chance to make an actual start in an actual game.
The Monkey Says: He hadn’t really gotten a normal start yet, so this looks to be the Halos giving him one legitimate look before they get too committed to Heaney and Santiago filling out the rotation.
The Story: Marc Krauss is out for a day or two with back spasms.
The Monkey Says: He’d been impressive thus far in camp, so hopefully this is nothing that short circuits his bid for a roster spot.
The Story: Garrett Richards threw four no-hit innings in a minor league game.
The Monkey Says: It appears the Angels are only going to have him pitch in minor league games so they can be certain that his starts are controlled. The first time he faces real major leaguers could be when he makes his season debut.
The Story: Erick Aybar has become a mentor to the young infielders on the roster.
The Monkey Says: Good. From what we’ve seen of them, they really need some mentoring.
The Story: Fangraphs presents their positional power rankings for catchers.
The Monkey Says: The Angels come in at #19. They’d be several spots higher if their back-up situation was better.
The Story: Considering Inglewood as a potential site for a new Angels stadium.
The Monkey Says: The Hollywood Park land has been primed for some kind of stadium, but Stan Kroenke owns that land and wants to put a NFL stadium there and move the Rams into it. If not for that, this would be a pretty good idea. I don’t imagine there is enough room for two stadiums in that location.
