The March 26th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Angels valued at $1.3 billion, Santiago gaining confidence and much more…
The Story: Forbes values the Angels franchise at $1.3 billion.
The Monkey Says: That’s the eighth highest valuation. It is also hokum. These Forbes valuations are specious at best since they have no real access to any of the team’s financial data. But, hey, $1.3 billion is a lot and that gets people’s attention.
The Story: Hector Santiago is working to improve his confidence.
The Monkey Says: This isn’t about his mound confidence so much as his confidence elsewhere. Apparently he is too intimidated to talk to Pujols and Trout, which is really weird. Ironically, this does not improve my confidence in Santiago.
The Story: Drew Butera has officially been given the back-up catcher job.
The Monkey Says: Not that there was ever a question, but Scioscia has now anointed Butera and thus provided clarity to one of the open position battles in Angels camp. The fifth starter and second base competitions remain clear as mud.
The Story: Mike Morin looks to build on his strong rookie season.
The Monkey Says: He’s been working on his slider to give lefties another look as he feels like they just sit on the outer half of the plate because his fastball and changeup both tail to that side of the dish.
The Story: Jose Mota talks about the upcoming season.
The Monkey Says: You had me at “Jose Mota talks.”
The Story: The Fangraphs third base positional power rankings.
The Monkey Says: The Angels are just 24th due to Freese’s low ceiling and the lack of a quality reserve infielder.
The Story: The Fangraphs shortstop positional power rankings.
The Monkey Says: The Angels rank sixth because of the reliability of Erick Aybar and the dearth of stud shortstops in the league right now.
The Story: The perseverance of Drew Rucinski.
The Monkey Says: #FreeRucinski is a thing.
