The April 2nd, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Weaver the likely Opening Day starter, Richards to return as soon as April 19th and much more…

The Story: Jered Weaver is being “targeted” as the Opening Day starter.
The Monkey Says: He is going to be the Opening Day  starter. That has always been the case but for some reason Scioscia insists on acting like he is protecting state secrets by only saying that they are “targeting” Weaver and still withholding a formal announcement until later.

The Story: Garrett Richards will go on a minor league rehab assignment before being activated.
The Monkey Says: The way the Angels are lining up his schedule means that he will return no sooner than April 19th. That assures that they will need at least one spot start on April 14th, maybe more if his minor league start doesn’t go smoothly.

The Story: Fans will now have to pass through metal detectors when entering Angels Stadium.
The Monkey Says: Which means it might take a little longer to get into the park, so plan accordingly.

The Story: Mike Scioscia answers questions about the upcoming season.
The Monkey Says: Enjoy the cliches and platitudes.

The Story: A new Facebook map of MLB fandom shows how much the Dodgers dominate Southern California.
The Monkey Says: At least among people on Facebook who are willing to “like” stuff. It might help if the Angels had a better social media presence though.

The Story: Baseball Tonight ranked Mike Trout as the best player in MLB.
The Monkey Says: I’m sure you are shocked.

The Story: Mike Trout headlines SI.com’s 2015 All-MLB team.
The Monkey Says: Which is only slightly more meaningless than the Baseball Tonight ranking.

The Story: C.J. Wilson is a mid-season trade candidate.
The Monkey Says: I actually don’t think he is. If Wilson is pitching well, they will keep him. If he isn’t, they would want to salary dump him, but that isn’t usually done at the deadline. A trade after this season is much more likely.

The Story: Garrett Richards is a dark horse Cy Young candidate.
The Monkey Says: Missing two starts shouldn’t hurt his case much, but he’d need to comeback immediately without any negative effects from his injury.

The Story: Fangraphs released their positional power rankings for starting rotations.
The Monkey Says: The Angels and their alleged Achilles heel rotation ranks 12th. That’s not great, but it also isn’t that bad nor are they that far from being in the top 10, missing that mark by just 0.5 WAR.
