Boxscore Breakdown #25: Nadir – Giants 5, Angels 0

Does it get any lower than this for Jered Weaver? He’s had worse statistical starts in his career or even this season, but the context of this one gives it the appearance of Weaver hitting rock bottom. Weaver has given up two homers before, but never two homers to start the first inning, followed by a triple. Those two homers were also allowed to Nori Aoki, just his 20th career homer and second in the last two seasons, and Joe Panik, just his second career homer. He’s allowed hits to pitchers before, but giving up two singles to Tim Lincecum, who isn’t even a good hitting pitcher, is a whole other level of low.

Weaver doesn’t know what’s wrong. The Angels don’t know what’s wrong. Nobody even appears to know what to do to figure out what is wrong or what to do with Weaver if he proves to be beyond repair.

I think this is also the first time this year that Mike Trout has been at the bottom of the RE24 chart.

Perhaps he can teach Weaver a thing or two about how to resurrect a career in the face of diminished velocity.

Bullpen Battle

None of the relievers did anything of note other than Cesar Ramos dotting a guy to give the Angels the league lead in hit batsmen.
