The May 26th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Cron sent down to minors, Angels exploring trades for left-handed bats and much more…

The Story: C.J. Cron has been optioned to Triple-A.
The Monkey Says: The writing had been on the wall for a while now. The Angels need both someone that can hit and someone who can provide more defensive value. Cron was doing neither and the roster was limited with both him and Krauss on the active roster. Hopefully they will call up Grant Green as his bat has been hot and his defensive versatility will make it easier to use Taylor Featherston for running and defense. The same goes for Collin Cowgill.

The Story: The Angels are considering a number of left-handed bats as trade targets.
The Monkey Says: The story is centered on Revere, but it also mentions that the Angels have at least checked in on Adam Lind, Jay Bruce, Brandon Moss and Andre Ethier. Revere seems to be the one most easy to acquire right now, but the rest will take some time. The Reds may not ever want to deal Bruce. Moss won’t be available until the Indians are well out of contention. The Brewers will probably hold onto Lind and try to drive the price up. The Dodgers could dump Ethier, but they have enough injuries right now that they actually need him for depth.

The Story: Collin Cowgill is limited by a hand injury right now.
The Monkey Says: He probably won’t be available to hit for a few days. Apparently he’s been dealing with a bad back as well, which might actually explain at least a little bit of his inability to hit so far this year.

The Story: A Red Sox scout explains how Mike Trout passed under his radar.
The Monkey Says: It isn’t so much how Boston missed on Trout, they appeared to actually like him quite a bit, but they shed a lot of light on how much work it took to be able to scout him in the Northeast.

The Story: A Statcast look at Mike Trout’s various tools.
The Monkey Says: Really this is just some Trout porn to help you through the morning as you shake off the three-day weekend.

The Story: Mike Morin has been placed on the DL with a strained oblique.
The Monkey Says: That is bad news as oblique injuries can take a long time to recover from and/or recur. Cam Bedrosian has been called up to take Morin’s place, so this will be his first prolonged look in the bigs this year. It hasn’t started well, however.

The Story: Nick Tropeano is plotting his return to the majors.
The Monkey Says: A plot, eh? I’m intrigued. Is this like an Ocean’s Eleven situation? Is he doing this on his own? Will there be disguises or stolen identities involved?

The Story: Working out of the bullpen agrees with Jose Alvarez.
The Monkey Says: Well, it didn’t agree with me Monday night. I’ve got the vomit stain on my couch to prove it.

The Story: Start up the Gold Glove conversation for Kole Calhoun.
The Monkey Says: This article is an early start to the usual Angels award season propaganda. It was also unfortunately timed with a series where Kole dropped a flyball in a critical situation.

The Story: A prospect update on Sean Newcomb.
The Monkey Says: From the early returns in the California League, it appears that Newcomb won’t be staying long if they really want to challenge him this year.
