Are you a left-hand hitting outfielder? Are you basically free to acquire? Do you have a pulse? If you answered yes to those questions, the Angels will trade for you! Yes, the Halos made their latest rearrangement of deck chairs with the announcement that the Angels acquire Kirk Nieuwenhuis:

Without getting too deep into the stats, just know that Nieuwenhuis is basically a left-handed version of Collin Cowgill. He is also out of options, so he’ll be on the active roster in what will likely be a strict platoon in left field with Cowgill. That will definitely be a defensive upgrade for the Halos and could be an offensive upgrade as well if Nieuwenhuis taps into some of the offensive production he displayed in the minors but never really shown in the big leagues. Either way, he will almost certainly put up better offensive numbers than Marc Krauss, who will likely be optioned once Nieuwenhuis joins the team.
With Kirk being virtually free to the Halos, the only real downside to this trade is that I now have to type Nieuwenhuis all the time and that ain’t easy.
