The June 5th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Angels de-emphasize selling tickets to lower class, never pursued Trumbo trade and much more…

The Story: The Angels are selling fewer tickets, but don’t mind because the higher prices are leading to increased revenue.
The Monkey Says: Seriously, someone needs to overhaul the media relations department of this franchise because they can’t stop saying tone deaf things. The team’s VP of marketing and ticket sales in no uncertain terms admits that they pretty much don’t care about selling tickets to “the lower end of the socioeconomic ladder” because they don’t spend that much when they come to the park. I get that it is a business, but part of that business is building a fan base and that won’t happen if you deliberately exclude the lower class.

The Story: The Angels never seriously pursued a trade for Mark Trumbo.
The Monkey Says: Many an Angel fan was disappointed to see him return to the AL West via a trade to Seattle. They shouldn’t be surprised though as Trumbo was never a Dipoto-type player. There is a reason he traded him away in the first place, after all. The good news is that this deal opens the trade market a bit, so Dipoto can start trying to find a LF/DH bat that fits his mold which is someone who actually draws a high amount of walks.

The Story: The Angels and Anaheim are still playing the stadium waiting game.
The Monkey Says: The quotes from the Angels mouthpieces cast a much more positive light than in previous months. That likely has a lot to do with them losing the leverage of relocating to Tustin since that city isn’t just going to bend over backwards for them. Mayor Tait still appears to be as obstinate as ever though.

The Story: Gary Brown was outrighted to Triple-A.
The Monkey Says: He’ll stick with Salt Lake and remain an option to be a pinch-running specialist in September.

The Story: A look at the Angels’ potential draft strategy.
The Monkey Says: They say they will take the best player available, but want to target offensive players. These are statements that are in direct conflict with each other. For what it is worth, just about every draft reporter says that the Halos are all over position players in this draft, especially with their first pick.

The Story: Matt Shoemaker will work out of the bullpen during the Yankees series.
The Monkey Says: The Halos have an off day on each side of the series, so they didn’t want to disrupt everyone’s schedule too much, plus it gives them an excuse to take Shoemaker out of the rotation to work on his issues some more.

The Story: Batting cleanup hasn’t been working well for Kole Calhoun so far.
The Monkey Says: He has been in a slump for sure, so Scioscia might have to shake things up. Having Matt Joyce show signs of life could give Scioscia the confidence to return him to the cleanup spot against righties and allow Calhoun to return to the leadoff role.

The Story: The Angels rank low in social media engagement.
The Monkey Says: Yeah, they’ve been better about tweeting things that are actually a little more social media-friendly, but they don’t engage with anyone at all, except for when they block people. I wish they would just hire some folks away from the LA Kings social media department because they are doing it right. They don’t always rub people the right way, but at least they are consistently interesting.
