The June 11th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Angels call up Kubitza, DFA Nieuwenhuis, recapping Day 3 of the draft and much more…

The Story: The Angels called up Kyle Kubitza.
The Monkey Says: He made his debut last night in place of David Freese who has a balky hamstring. He may not be up for long, but if he impresses in this brief audition, he could stick around and factor into the DH rotation. There has even been talk of giving him some work in left field, but he has no experience there.

The Story: Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been designated for assignment.
The Monkey Says: He didn’t hit for the Mets and didn’t hit for the Angels either. It seems unlikely that he’ll get all the way through waivers, so the Nieuwenhuis era is likely over for good. That’s fine by me because I’d like this to be the last time I ever have to type Nieuwenhuis.

The Story: The full listing of Angels 2015 draft picks.
The Monkey Says: The highlights of Day 3 were the Halos drafting the brother of Mike Trout’s longtime girlfriend and the drafting of Jerry Dipoto’s son. The Dipoto drafting is particularly hilarious because Jonah is not going to sign with the team and instead go to college.

The Story: Collin Cowgill could come off the DL without a rehab assignment.
The Monkey Says: He is eligible to come off the DL today (I think), so that would suggest he is very close to be activated.

The Story: The Angels released Zach Stewart so he could sign in Korea.
The Monkey Says: He was having an OK season in Salt Lake, but is a Quad-A arm (and that might be generous). This is no big loss.
