The June 17th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Scioscia not happy with replay system, Rasmus nearing a return and much more…

The Story: Mike Scioscia is not happy with the MLB replay system.
The Monkey Says: The Angels seem to have ended up on the short-end of the stick on a lot of dubious reviews this year and Scioscia is justifiably pissed. The whole system being built on “definitive” proof that the original call was wrong is very wrong-headed. Frankly, so is the manager challenge system. Scioscia is actually a guy who can influence change here though, so this isn’t him just complaining to complain.

The Story: Cory Rasmus is nearing a rehab assignment.
The Monkey Says: This shouldn’t be big news, but it is. The middle relief is a trainwreck right now, so Rasmus has a big opportunity to step in and help out once he gets healthy. Before the season, there was talk of him being a starter again, but I can’t imagine the Angels taking that route given the state of the bullpen right now.

The Story: Collin Cowgill got a cortisone shot in his wrist and will be re-evaluated in a week.
The Monkey Says: This is considered good news, but there is still no timetable for his return.

The Story: The Angels signed second round pick OF Jahmai Jones to an over-slot bonus.
The Monkey Says: The Halos are rapidly signing much of their draft class, but Jones was the big over-slot fish they wanted to make sure they landed.

The Story: Erick Aybar is trying to stay positive in the face of offensive struggles.
The Monkey Says: It is almost like he has no business batting leadoff or something.

The Story: The Angels are responsible for their own cybersecurity.
The Monkey Says: This is so dumb. It isn’t like the Cardinals hired some sophisticated hackers here, they just knew a former employee’s password and used it to login into a poorly secured system. The Angels actually use a software program from Bloomberg Sports for at least part of their information, so that is almost assuredly much more secure than whatever stupid homegrown software the Astros employed.

The Story: Who is Kyle Kubitza?
The Monkey Says: This is just a quick primer from a prospect guru in case you weren’t familiar with Kubitza previously.

The Story: Each manager’s odds of getting fired this season.
The Monkey Says: 50:1 for Scioscia seems too likely. No matter how badly the Angels crater, Arte will never fire him in-season. If anything, he’ll arrange for Scioscia to use his opt-out this offseason to give the impression of both sides wishing to “explore new opportunities.”
