Boxscore Breakdown #69: Nice – Athletics 4, Angels 1

It was game #69 for the Angels… nice. The game itself, not so nice. That magical Angels offense that came back on ace Sonny Gray couldn’t get anything going against definite non-ace Jesse Hahn. Jered Weaver didn’t do much to make us feel better about his struggles. The bullpen coughed up more inherited runs to help make sure there was no second straight comeback. No, there nothing nice about this game at all.

Hahn is not a strikeout pitcher by any means, yet he fanned against him three times. Gross. On the positive side, Mike Trout did all he could to set the table for the rest of the lineup, the rest of the lineup just wasn’t interested in clearing the table.

Aside from his superhuman efforts, the Oakland offense was generally well spread out. That’s a phenomenon the Halos should consider investigating and replicating.

His velocity seems to be trending down again as well, which could be cause for concern. Jesse Hahn was excellent, especially at getting a GIDP right when he needed it.

He is unhittable in the minors but extremely hittable in the majors. Turns out having a fastball that is straight as an arrow is a bad idea, no matter how hard you throw, especially when you don’t locate well. Fernando Salas once again made a one-pitch appearance. That might be the only palatable form of Salas.

Weaver then fell off the tightrope in the bottom of that inning and that was all she wrote.
