This is why we can’t have nice things. The day after the Angels earned a hard-fought victory over the division leading Astros, this bullshit happened. There isn’t even anything else to say about this game. The game sucked and the Angels suck.

That concludes the portion of the game recap where I say anything nice about the Angels. David Freese actually had a hit in this game, but he also had a back-breaking GIDP early on when the Halos were actually still in the game. Matt Joyce continues to exist… for some reason.

Perhaps the Astros actually knew what they were doing with all of this rebuilding nonsense. Luis Valbuena also bashed two homers and actually has almost as many homers (19) as singles (22). That sounds like a good thing, but it isn’t. Despite the 13 runs, there was actually a surprising amount of Astros in the negative for RE24.

Starting Pitcher Scores

Wilson, he goes and takes a dump all over the mound. Suddenly those trade inquiries from the Cubs sound more appealing. What’s that? They always sounded good? Oh, right. For Houston, Collin McHugh broke free from his struggles to pitch one of his best games of the year because that’s just what people do when they face the Angels.

Bullpen Battle

No, seriously, explain it to me. Neither of them can get anyone out. Salas at least had a few good weeks, but Bedrosian has been consistently lousy. Because of how taxed the relievers were in this game, there actually is a chance that one of them could get optioned, which would be a welcome happenstance.
