The July 9th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Trout won’t be in Home Run Derby, Weaver nearing a return and much more…
The Story: Mike Trout will not be in this year’s Home Run Derby, but he “will do it one day.”
The Monkey Says: As I said before, this was probably more about letting Albert have his moment than anything else. Trout will probably be coaxed into it next year if only to get it out of the way. Then again, LeBron never did the Slam Dunk contest, so who knows.
The Story: Jered Weaver is getting closer to a return.
The Monkey Says: They are talking about him coming back without a rehab assignment, which is probably more about Weaver not wanting to go out on rehab than him not being rusty. The Angels have said they won’t go with a six-man rotation, so either Heaney or Shoemaker will lose their spot in the rotation. That will make for quite the interesting decision.
The Story: C.J. Wilson of the Angels made fun of C.J. Wilson of the NFL for blowing his fingers off with fireworks.
The Monkey Says: The other C.J. Wilson clearly lacked #PMA. He is also now lacking two fingers. Don’t play with fireworks, kids. You too, NFL players.
The Story: Over/under predictions for each team in the second half.
The Monkey Says: Will Leitch predicted the Angels to be terrible before the season but somehow after watching them be underwhelming most of the first half, he now thinks they will win more than 88 games. Three cheers for intellectual honesty!
The Story: Jonah Keri hands out his mid-season awards.
The Monkey Says: And Mike Trout is not his AL MVP, which is totally defensible. That’s it. I just wanted to point out that Trout not being the MVP is actually totally OK this year, at least so far.
The Story: The All-Black Hole Team.
The Monkey Says: Featuring Matt Joyce, which you probably guessed already.
The Story: Sean Newcomb made Baseball America’s mid-season Top 50.
The Monkey Says: He checks in at #37 after starting at #70 before the season. His stock is clearly rising, so it is a good thing prospect-hoarding Bill Stoneman is in power no, assuring Newcomb won’t be dealt away.
