Boxscore Breakdown #84: Dampened – Angels 3, Rockies 2

It took a lengthy rain delay to finally dampen the suddenly red hot Angels offense, but it didn’t waterlog them enough to keep them out of the win column. It did, however, possibly cost them their closer for at least a brief period of time.

Good thing too because the Angels couldn’t get anything else going. Just like old times! Kole Calhoun had a really rough night, but Efren Navarro had a worse night on a per plate appearance basis.

I’m almost a little worried that Carlos Gonzalez was one of those players to have a good game because it might fool Arte Moreno into tasking Stoneman to trade for him. As for a Rockie who still is a legitimate star, Nolan Arenado couldn’t be stopped, only avoided. Charlie Blackmon is pulling up the rear and unfortunately was not stuffed into someone’s luggage as a parting gift for the Halos. I’m guessing they couldn’t get his beard to fit.

Starting Pitcher Scores

On one hand, he failed to go deep again and was a hittable. On the other hand, he still limited the damage and probably deserves some leeway for having to pitch at Coors Field. Chris Rusin would’ve had a pretty darn good day if Mike Trout didn’t exist.

Bullpen Battle

Maybe that’s why his groin gave out on him. The Rockies bullpen was generally better, but they get the lower marks because John Axford let everyone else down.

Almost a little too much drama, but I think that’s not too much to ask for given how long we had to wait for this game to actually start.

Johnny G had the game-winner, but without Trout’s solo shots, he never would’ve had the chance.
