Boxscore Breakdown #87: Nobody’s home – Mariners 5, Angels 0

Carlos Delfino

The Astros lost. The Angels just had to win to move into first place. Opportunity was knocking. And knocking. And knocking. The Angels, however, weren’t home to answer the door. Or maybe they were home, but on the toilet and figured it was probably just a Jehovah’s Witness, so they ignored the knocks. If it was really important, they’d come back later. Right?

The three strikeouts in his other at-bats didn’t help though. Albert Pujols quietly continues his mini slump (2 for his last 17). C.J. Cron had another hit, but his hot streak clearly doesn’t extend into his fielding work.

He had help this time though with Kyle Seager and Nelson Cruz having big days. Pro tip: when the 4-5-6 hitters reach base in 11 of 12 combined appearances, you’re gonna have a bad time. Robinson Cano also had a bad time. A real bad time.

Wilson game where he kept the team in the game but gave everyone an ulcer every half inning. Hisashi Iwakuma picked a very inconvenient time to remember how to pitch.

Albert Pujols doesn’t usually strikeout, but when he does, it is with the bases loaded and no one out.
