The July 15th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Trout wins All-Star MVP again, Pujols booed at All-Star Game and much more…

The Story: Mike Trout won another All-Star MVP.
The Monkey Says: Trout had an incredible day. He had the first leadoff homer in an All-Star Game since Bo Jackson in 1989 and, my favorite, Jeff Passan tweeted out that Trout lead off his first All-Star Game with a single, his second All-Star Game with a double, his third All-Star Game with a triple and his fourth All-Star Game with a homer. The cycle is a lame accomplishment, but that is pretty damn cool.

The Story: Albert Pujols and Cardinal players got booed at the All-Star Game.
The Monkey Says: Pujols didn’t get booed as hard, but he obviously didn’t mind it as he helped boo Yadier Molina.

The Story: Mike Trout ruined the All-Star team photo.
The Monkey Says: Posing for photos, Trout’s one true weakness.

The Story: Mike Trout, Vladimir Guerrero, Nolan Ryan and Tim Salmon were named the “Franchise Four” for the Angels.
The Monkey Says: This is a contrived “Mount Rushmore”-type thing, but they did pretty well with the Halos. I could nitpick it, but I really just don’t care about it enough.

The Story: Albert Pujols was the real winner of the Home Run Derby for his embrace of Champ Pederson.
The Monkey Says: Pujols has met Champ before and obviously has a special bond with him as part of Albert’s work with Down’s Syndrome. Maybe this is why Reds fans booed Pujols just a little bit less.

The Story: Mike Trout and other under 25-year old All-Stars have no idea how technology like VCRs and cassette tapes work.
The Monkey Says: This is clearly scripted and dumb, but it still made me feel incredibly old.

The Story: Albert Pujols has been the catalyst for the Angels’ rise to first place in the AL West.
The Monkey Says: Yes, Albert got noticeably red hot for a long stretch, but it also coincided with guys like Iannetta and Aybar being not nearly as terrible as they had been early in the season.

The Story: Did the Marlins jump the gun on Andrew Heaney?
The Monkey Says: I don’t know if they jumped the gun so much as tried to make sure they got high value out of him after they saw signs that maybe he would not be as good as they hoped. They hedged their bet by dealing for an established veteran that filled a need and punted on Heaney’s upside because they saw reason to worry about his downside. They look to have been wrong about that, but it isn’t an indefensible move.
