Boxscore Breakdown #89: The Hangover – Angels 1, Red Sox 0

For anyone worried about the Angels losing all of their momentum because of the All-Star break (raises own hand), this game was highly concerning for eight and a half innings. It was particularly concerning for the first six innings when the Halos were getting no-hit. But like all problems in life, Mike Trout fixed it. The rest of the Angels still looked like they were hungover from their vacations, but not Trout. He was as right as ever and saved the Angels from that cold start we were fearing.

Kole Calhoun could’ve been the hero if he hit his double about 18 inches farther or higher. David Freese somehow snuck his way over to the positive side of the axis. Albert Pujols had the worst day and we are all going to agree that it is just one bad day and not a continuation of the slump he was falling into before the break. Please excuse any typos from this point forward because I will be writing the rest of the post with my head in the sand.

Everyone else was in the negative, including Mike Napoli, which is a huge relief.

Wilson pitched eight shutout innings, which seems like he dominated, but he only actually had a one 1-2-3 inning and even that inning included a single that later got erased by a GIDP, so even though he generally pitched well, he was almost always under at least a little bit of duress. For Wade Miley, it was quite the opposite as he avenged himself against his FIP discrepancy all in one night.

Bullpen Battle

Fortunately, he’ll be OK. Koji Uehara may not be after giving up the walk-off to Trout. He booked it off the mound, into the dugout and out through the tunnel in record time.

Sorry, I kind of have earthquakes on the brain since I just so happen to live on a small island off the coast of Seattle.

Can we just engrave the MVP award now or are we really going to bother with the rest of the season.
