Boxscore Breakdown #102: Ghosts of Angels past – Dodgers 5, Angels 3

When the first inning started with Zack Greinke inducing a GIDP from Mike Trout and was then followed by Howie Kendrick hitting a solo homer, you knew it was going to be that kind of day for the Angels. Two former Angels just torturing the Halos. Granted, Greinke did all the torturing from that point on, but being haunted by two former players is not the way you want to start a series in which your team is already reeling and in desperate need of getting back on track before losing too much ground in the divisional race. Maybe they will have better luck today against… Clayton Kershaw?

Dammit.

Mike Trout was the entirety of the offense. Kole Calhoun set the table, Trout cleared it. That was good for three runs, but nobody else saw fit to contribute in any way other than David Murphy drawing a walk and Erick Aybar getting drilled by a pitch. That being said, who else totally thought Connor Gillaspie’s game-ending flyball was going to leave the yard?

Alberto Callaspo even got in on the Angel haunting game by finishing with a positive RE24 after coming off the bench. The guy who should’ve been an Angel, Carl Crawford, brought up the rear.

Bullpen Battle

Cory Rasmus certainly impressed in his season debut, giving us hope that he can be the addition they needed. The Halos at least put a scare in Kenley Jansen, so that was nice.

One of the starters lived up to their All-Star billing. Hector was not that one.
