The August 6th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Weaver could return Sunday, Street Twitter trolls wife during childbirth and much more…
The Story: Jered Weaver could return to the rotation as soon as Sunday.
The Monkey Says: He felt good after his last rehab start, so he’ll almost assuredly be added back assuming nothing goes wrong during his Friday bullpen session. He claims he feels better than he has all season, but who knows how much of that is him just blowing smoke up his own ass. He certainly isn’t blowing smoke anywhere else given reports that his fastball was sitting at 83 MPH during his last rehab start.
The Story: Huston Street was trolling his wife on Twitter while she was in labor.
The Monkey Says: This makes up for that stupid comment he made about quitting if he ever was asked to pitch in a non-save situation. I almost want to get my wife pregnant again just so I can do this to her. Almost. On the other hand, if Street ends up getting divorced, I’m pretty sure that this will be Exhibit A in the divorce hearing.
The Story: The AL West race is far from over.
The Monkey Says: Nobody really thought it was over, but the Astros seem like heavy favorites. Still, anything can happen when the two teams still have so many games left against each other.
The Story: Mike Trout is quietly having the best season of his career.
The Monkey Says: So does this mean we should start shouting at people about it so it isn’t so quiet? Works for me. I’ll head to Target and by a megaphone after work.
The Story: Are the Angels interested in Dave Dombrowski?
The Monkey Says: They aren’t saying anything about it, but one would have to think that they’d at least check in with him. The main obstacles everyone points to are working with a meddlesome owner and a meddlesome manager. The owner part shouldn’t be an issue since he had been dealing with a demanding Mike Ilitch in Detroit and I’m not sold that he’ll view Scioscia as an impediment either. I still think that there is a very real chance that Dombrowski is one of the few guys that could come into the front office and hold sway over Scioscia because of his fantastic track record.
The Story: Mike Scioscia will officially be using platoons at left field and DH going forward.
The Monkey Says: This is big news because Scioscia generally shies away from platoons and even when he does use them, he refrains from making them official, for whatever reason. I wonder if he might even consider platooning Freese and Gillaspie when Freese gets back, assuming they can find a way to keep Gillaspie on the active roster.
The Story: Hector Santiago believes he’s fixed his changeup issues.
The Monkey Says: His screwball was screwing up his changeup. This is yet another reason why he should scrap that gimmicky pitch.
