The August 25th, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Angels hold closed door meeting, rival GM bashes Scioscia and Moreno and much more…

The Story: The Angels held a closed door meeting after their loss on Sunday.
The Monkey Says: There was probably a lot of discussion on what exact degree their sense of urgency is at. According to all quotes from all Angels players lately, that is apparently a subject of much debate. If only there was an urgency thermometer that could be installed in the clubhouse.

The Story: Ken Rosenthal quotes one rival GM who views the Angels GM position as undesirable.
The Monkey Says: I’m sure he’s got valid points, but I also have to think there is an incentive for a rival GM to cast aspersions on another franchise if it means potentially keeping them from getting a good hire and thus making them better. I also think Rosenthal is of the opinion that they blew it by not acquiring Chase Utley. That’s kind of silly on two levels because 1) Utley might suck and 2) Utley had a ton of power in the situation and may simply have chosen the Dodgers over the Angels for reasons that the Angels couldn’t control.

The Story: Andrew Heaney is becoming a key to the Angels’ aspirations.
The Monkey Says: He is important, but the offense not being a sack of crap is more important.

The Story: How the Angels organization lost its luster.
The Monkey Says: News flash: the Angels organization never had that much luster. This organization has been around for 50+ years and really just had two windows of about 12 years total where they were relevant. This isn’t a team with a storied history and a litany of legendary players. There is no revered manager or front office executive that guided the Angels through year after year of sustained success. The team has never been a prime destination for marquee players or a major media spotlight. Truth be told, it is the pursuit of all that luster that has submarined the Angels. Arte Moreno’s desires to build the Angels into a national team resulted in bad “big splash” move after bad “big splash” move. He didn’t just want to win another World Series, he wanted to become America’s Team. He achieved a certain amount of his aspirations, but this year is turning south and 2016 looks like it could be an utter disaster.
