The September 15, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news including Arte Moreno flying in to New York to meet with Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler, Johnny Giavotella moving closer to a return to the line-up and more…

The Story: Arte Moreno and John Carpino met with Billy Eppler in New York Monday night

MWAH Says: If Arte is taking the time to personally fly across the country to speak with a GM candidate, I think it’s safe to assume he’s the favorite for the position. It may be that pulling out all the stops is just a necessary step given the widespread rumors of how undesirable the position is and the several other opportunities that have opened up in the past few weeks, but I don’t think that alone could get Moreno to New York in September. Hell, I don’t think that’d get Moreno past Palm Springs. Eppler, who’s spent 11 years in the Yankees front office, finished runner-up to Dipoto in the last GM search.

The Story: Johnny Giavotella cleared to take batting practice

MWAH Says: Being able to see in the batter’s box is the only hurdle standing between Giavotella and a return to the Angels everyday line-up. Unfortunately for him, up to now his fourth-nerve palsy has prevented him from seeing straight when looking to the left, as he’ll have to do at the plate. If all goes well in his BP sessions this week, he could be back before we know it.

The Story: Matt Shoemaker will throw a simulated game Tuesday

MWAH Says: If his forearm doesn’t act up, he could be primed to take the hill for the Angels in Minnesota on Sunday. Hopefully they won’t have totally frittered away their slim playoff odds by then.

The Story: Hector Santiago a finalist for the Roberto Clemente award

MWAH Says: The award is given to the MLB player who best exemplifies Clemente’s spirit of community service and off-the-field work with charities and other services. This is the second time Santiago has been considered for the award—the first was in 2013 with the White Sox. The left-hander’s main cause, Santiago’s Soldiers, seems like a pretty cool endeavor.

The Story: Pujols thinks David Ortiz is a “no-doubt” Hall-of-Famer

MWAH Says: Ehhhhhhh… He’s got a good case, but “no doubt” is a little much. If Big Papi gets in, it better not happen before Regular Papi.
